FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Have some questions about your visit to inSPIRE Rock? We can help!

  • How does this work? Do I need to RSVP? Do we pay by the hour?

No need to RSVP. Just come! You don’t pay by the hour. Instead, you purchase a day pass which allows you to come and go as you please all day! Only those climbing have to purchase a day pass. If you are watching, there is no charge to go in, but you must still fill out a waiver. Parking is limited, so please carpool!

  • When are you open?

    Mon – Fri: 11 AM – 9 PM
    Saturday: 10 AM – 9 PM
    Sunday: Noon – 6 PM

  • Are you open on holidays?

The only holidays we are closed or have special hours are as follows:
New Year’s Day: Open at 12 PM
    Easter: Closed
4th of July: Open at 10 AM, Close at 4 PM
Labor Day: Open at 9 AM
    Thanksgiving: Closed
Christmas Eve: Close at 4 PM
    Christmas Day: Closed
Day after Christmas: Open at 12 PM
New Year’s Eve: Close at 4 PM

  • Who has to fill out a waiver?

Put everyone who enters the gym and goes beyond the Welcome desk. It is a legal document, so minors will need their parents or guardians to complete and sign it. Click here to fill out a waiver.

  • Is climbing safe?

No. Rock climbing is inherently dangerous. It requires knowledge and personal responsibility. Compliance with all rules, instructions, and/or warnings CANNOT guarantee your safety. Our staff is here to teach, train, and assist you in reducing the risks, but ultimately the responsibility for your safety is yours.

  • Are you open to the public?

Yes, we are open to the public. You do not have to have a membership to climb, practice yoga, or order a drink from the coffee bar.

  • Are there any age restrictions?

We welcome all ages, but most climbers need to be around three (3) years old at the youngest to start climbing.  If we can get them into our full body harnesses, they can attempt to climb in roped areas (if a parent or guardian or someone with your party is belaying them) and auto-belays (as long as they weigh around 30 pounds).  If they can’t fit into our full-body harnesses snugly, they can attempt climbing in the kid-friendly bouldering areas upstairs.

Here are some other area-specific age restrictions:

    • Children under the age of 8 at Spring and under the age of 13 at Cypress are not permitted in the main bouldering areas.  There is kid friendly bouldering upstairs at both locations.
    • Children aged 8-11 are not permitted to climb above the red line in the main bouldering areas in Spring.
    • An adult must actively supervise climbers under the age of 14
    • Climbers must be 14 years old to enter the fitness room area (except – climbing team with coach)
    • Must be 14 years old to belay (except – climbing team)
    • Climbers must be 14 years of age to lead a climb (except – climbing team)

  • What should I wear to rock climb?

We suggest wearing comfortable clothes to wear that you can move freely in (think athletic wear, not tight blue jeans).

Here are some other clothing requirements:

    • Shirt or tank top that covers the chest, abdomen, sides, & back.  You can’t go shirtless or just in a sports bra.
    • Shorts or pants that you can move freely in.  Basketball shorts (the shiny kind) aren’t recommended (they move around more).  Short shorts aren’t recommended either (it’s more comfortable if the harness leg straps are on your shorts instead of on your skin).
    • Socks (if you’re using rental shoes)
    • No jewelry (watches, bracelets, rings, big earrings, or long necklaces).

  • Do I need to rent gear?

Like bowling, some people have their gear, and others have to rent gear. Most people rent at least a harness and climbing shoes to climb in the gym’s roped areas. You can also rent a chalk bag (for your hands), or you can get the total rental package (harness, shoes, and chalk). If you only want to boulder (climbing without ropes), you only need to rent climbing shoes. If you would like to, you can purchase gear in our on-site and online gear store, the R3 Pro Shop. Click here for rental gear pricing.

  • Do I need to know how to belay?

No, you don’t have to know how to belay. We have 14 auto-belays in the gym if you do not know how to belay or do not have a climbing partner. If you want to learn how to belay, we can teach you! Top Rope Belay Classes are offered several times weekly ($12.95 per person).

  • What if I already know how to belay?

If you already know how to belay, you do NOT need to take our Top Rope Belay class. Ask our staff to give you a belay check when you arrive. We require the figure-8 follow-through knot backed up with a double overhand safety knot. We provide Black Diamond ATCs, so if you belay with another type of device you may want to bring it.

  • What if I want to lead climb?

If you are a proficient lead climber or already lead climb at another gym, we still require you to have an inSPIRE Rock lead card and take a lead test. If you haven’t lead climbed before but would like to learn, you can sign up for an Intro to Lead Class. For a copy of our Lead Climbing & Belaying Standards, click here.

  • Can I just drop off my kids and let them climb?

No. Active adult supervision is required for all kids 13 and younger. Our staff will not supervise your children.

  • Can I bring in cake and/or food for a party?

Suppose you booked the party with us, YES. Suppose you did not book the party with us, NO. Parties booked with us can access the private party room where cake, food, and drinks can be served. Because of food laws, the café can not allow outside food and beverages in their area either.

  • Are there any weight restrictions?

Our auto-belays have weight restrictions of 30 pounds minimum and 300 pounds maximum, but the rest of the gym does not have a weight restriction.

  • Do you offer group rates?

Yes. We offer discounted rates to non-profit organizations for visits Monday-Thursday. You must book with us at least two (2) weeks prior to get the discounted rate. We do not offer any discounted rates Friday-Sunday. Please visit our group page for details and to book online.
