Competitive Teams

inSPIRING  Youth Programs and Teams

At inSPIRE Rock, our teams are designed to meet the needs of climbers with diverse experience levels and ages. All of our curriculum has been developed with focus on four core concepts, Fundamentals, Fun, Fitness and Friends. We aim to support our climbers as they strengthen their bodies and minds and meet their goals through indoor rock climbing. Our coaching staff, in addition to being experienced and supportive, are fun, energetic, and accommodating. Our competitive teams participate in the three USA Climbing formats (speed climbing, sport climbing, and bouldering), and compete in USA Climbing Competitions with youth their age.  Sign up today to get your child climbing on one of our teams.

Competitive Climbing

  • Competitive Climbing

    Competitive Climbing

Competition Climbing is an exciting individual sport.  There are several formats in competition climbing. In all formats the team member is competing with youth their same age.

Speed climbing is a timed sport.  The climber begins when their foot leaves the ground and ends when they touch the timer at the top to stop the clock.  It is fun, exciting, and all ages can compete.

Sport climbing has two main formats for climbing competitions.  With the on-sight format, the climber is given one chance to get to the top.  Each hold is given a point value.  The climber gets full points if they get to the top.  Climbers are not allowed to see the route before climbing it, and must wait for their turn to climb.  Usually they climb a set number of routes, and the scores are cumulated to give the climber’s final score.

The red-point format is a little more laid back.  The climber is given a fixed amount of time to complete their routes.  This is usually 2.5 to 3 hours.  Each climb is given a fixed value.

The Bouldering formats are similar to those used in Sport climbing, but scoring for Bouldering is based on zones/tops instead of each hold.

The Regional, Divisional, and National competition formats vary, but are typically on-sight.

  • USA Climbing

    USA Climbing

USA Climbing is the national governing body of competition climbing in the United States.
We promote three competition disciplines: bouldering, sport and speed climbing.
USA Climbing receives sanctioning and is recognized by: The International Federation for Sport Climbing (IFSC – formerly known as the International Council for Competition Climbing or the ICC), the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the United States Olympic Committee (USOC).
